Grooving…
After allowing hits to the first three Yankee batters of the game, Johnson had set down eight in a row before walking Bobby Abreu with two outs in the third, and seemed to be in a groove.
But he has already thrown 62 pitches through three innings, and just escaped a jam to maintain a 1-0 deficit. The Sox certainly don’t want to have to overuse their bullpen with the nightcap – and Jon Lester – yet to come. In that regard, however, the Sox are in much better shape than the Yankees, enjoying the day off while the Yankees employed a chunk of their pen in a 12-2 loss to Baltimore.
