Marcus Smart goes coast-to-coast, hits circus shot before buzzer

And the foul.

Marcus Smart isn’t particularly known for his offensive exploits. But everyone once and awhile he pulls off something unexpected.

With just over five seconds left in the third quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers, the third-year Celtics guard took the ball and bruised his way to the top of the key. After absorbing the contact, Smart lofted the ball toward the basket in a one-legged, running floater… and banked it in with 0.5 seconds remaining.

He was also fouled on the play.

“Count it!” exclaimed Celtics play-by-play announcer Mike Gorman. Always good for a laugh, longtime color commentator Tommy Heinsohn added that he would have “thrown a bottle” at a ref, if they had called the foul on the play on Smart. Fortunately, they did not.

The Celtics hung on to their lead going into the fourth quarter and won the game 109-100.

Maybe Smart should take more shots while awkwardly falling off one foot.
