In a scene sure to have raised eyebrows among nearby drivers, police in a Worcester suburb engaged in an extremely low-speed chase Saturday involving a front-end loader.

Police in Millbury reported receiving a report at about 9:20 p.m. about a front-end loader operating erratically on Route 20 eastbound. They were initially unable to locate the errant construction vehicle, but soon after found it on Park Hill Avenue, according to a statement posted on Facebook.

After the driver failed to respond to a police cruiser’s emergency blue lights, “a slow-speed pursuit ensued at approximately 10-15 mph,” during which the driver nearly struck multiple utility poles and swerved into oncoming traffic, police said.

After the vehicle continued onto Martin Street, an assisting officer positioned a cruiser in front of it, forcing it to stop, police said. Although he shut off the vehicle, the driver refused to exit when ordered, according to police, who reported removing him without further incident.

Kelvin Ucles-Flores, 21, of Worcester, was taken into custody and is facing several charges. Police have yet to reveal the specific charges or what instigated the incident, which they said remains under investigation.
