A Methuen High School teacher is on paid administrative leave and facing a criminal investigation amid allegations of “inappropriate conduct” with a student, police and school officials said.
High school administrators began investigating the teacher immediately after receiving complaints, acting Superintendent Lisa Golobski Twomey said in a statement Wednesday.
Golobski Twomey said the investigation remains ongoing “while the district seeks a full understanding of the facts.” She did not name the teacher in question or specify the nature of the allegations.
Police Chief Scott J. McNamara said the Metheun Police Department opened a criminal investigation into the woman’s conduct after the district informed a school resource officer that the teacher “was potentially engaged in inappropriate conduct and communications with a student.”
“At this time, this is a personnel matter in the hands of the school district,” McNamara explained. “However, a Methuen Police Department detective has been assigned to the case to determine if any unlawful conduct occurred.”
The school district encouraged any families with questions or concerns to contact administrators at 978-722-6007.
“Keeping our students safe guides every decision we make,” Golobski Twomey said. “While we understand this news may raise questions in our community, please be advised that we are unable to share information at this time due to the ongoing investigation and privacy rights. I am asking that our community members please be patient and allow the investigation to reach its conclusion.”
