Travelers can now ride Uber or Lyft shuttles to Logan International Airport and enjoy special security line privileges once they get there.
Massport has teamed up with Uber and Lyft to offer customers an urban shuttle service that operates along fixed routes between Boston and several locations in and around the city. The service launched on Thursday.
Unlike traditional rideshare options, the shuttles carry groups of passengers in a single trip and has designated pickup and drop-off locations. Shuttle passengers also get a “Ticket to Skip,” which means they are permitted to jump to the head of the TSA security line, according to Massport.
“This shuttle service is about giving real people a reliable, affordable way to get to Logan — whether you’re a daily commuter, a first-time traveler, or just trying to avoid the headache of airport parking,” said Yuko Yamazaki of Lyft, in a statement.
The Uber shuttles have been a success at other major airports, said Andy Jeninga, general manager of airports and travel at Uber, in a statement, and he’s excited to bring the service to Boston.
“These are great options for both residents and visitors as they link the airport to popular locations,” said Rich Davey, CEO of Massport, in a statement. “They give our passengers more flexibility through affordable and reliable transportation options. This initiative helps us advance our efforts to increase HOV travel, ease congestion, and improve efficiency across the airport.”
