Two officers with the Boston Police Department were faced with an unexpected task while on patrol early Tuesday morning — welcoming a new Bostonian to the world. The department said the two officers, who were not identified by name, were conducting an investigation near Adams and King streets in Dorchester around 4:30 a.m. when they were flagged down by a man who told them his wife was going into labor in a car nearby.“The officers immediately ran across the street to the vehicle where they observed the female actively giving birth,” Boston police said in a statement. “The officers were able to assist in the safe delivery of the baby and provided additional care and comfort to the newborn boy and his parents until Boston EMS arrived.”The officers later paid a visit to the hospital where the mother and baby boy were being cared for to officially meet the family, bringing a few birthday presents along with them, according to the department. “They brought a BPD teddy bear for baby and BPD coffee mugs for mom and dad…looks like they’re going to need them to keep up with their new edition to their growing family,” Boston police said.
