Winchester Man Accused of Murdering His Mother Arrested in North Carolina
Police in Belmont, North Carolina arrested a Winchester man on Tuesday wanted for his mother’s murder, Winchester Police Chief Kenneth C. Albertelli confirmed. Matthew McAveeney, 46, is facing multiple charges including the murder of his mother, Barbara McAveeney, who was found dead in her condominium last week.
“I am pleased with the amazing level of cooperation and hard work shown by police across multiple jurisdictions, who worked together to ensure that this alleged killer would not remain on the loose,’’ Albertelli said in a statement. “This was a horrible crime, and all we can do as police officers is ensure that justice is served.’’
A medical examiner ruled the death a homicide due to blunt-force trauma to the head, according to CBS Boston. The Middlesex district attorney’s office also issued arrest warrants for McAveeney on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon on a person 60 years of age or older, and cruelty to animals.
