Thursday will find the Boston region smack in the middle of a three-day expected heat wave — and it might end up being the hottest day of the entire summer.

Highs will reach the mid to upper 90s in some areas, according to forecasters. Combined with oppressive humidity, the heat index on Thursday is expected to exceed 100 degrees. There will also be chances for afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Oppressive heat and humidity continue on Friday before relief finally arrives on Saturday.
