Jack Pickell is a Boston news veteran of more than 30 years. He has held positions in print, broadcast, and digital news. A US Navy veteran, he began his career in 1992 as a reporter with The Pilot Newspaper in Boston. He also worked for several years as producer of WCVB-TV's Eyeopener newscast. Jack has been with the Boston Globe and Boston.com since 2007. He has covered breaking news, sports, culture, and weather, as well as running homepage story placement throughout much of Boston.com's history. Classic video games, early-80s pop culture (especially early-MTV-era music), and Boston sports are among his favorite things.
Education
Jack is a Magna Cum Laude 1992 graduate of Boston University’s College of Communication, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
From 1984 to 1988, Jack served in the United States Navy, Petty Officer Third Class, as a musician and unit leader for Navy Band San Francisco.
Awards
Jack is a proud member of the Boston Globe staff that was honored with the Pulitzer Prize in the breaking-news category in 2014 for its coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings a year earlier.
