Resort airports bring travelers straight into the action, and one of the best in the nation is in Vermont, according to USA Today readers.
USA Today released a list of the 10 best resort airports in the U.S. on Wednesday, part of its 2025 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport in South Burlington, Vermont ranked No. 6.
“There’s nothing quite like stepping off a plane and feeling like your vacation has already begun — and the best resort airports deliver that feeling every day,” wrote USA Today. “These small hub and nonhub airports, located in some of the country’s most beloved getaway destinations, offer a relaxed atmosphere, scenic surroundings, and a smooth start (or finish) to your trip.”
Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport is located minutes from Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington, which has been named the best public square in America, and Lake Champlain, recently named one of the most “amazing” lakes in America.
Here’s what USA Today wrote about the airport:
Whether heading to Northern Vermont to peep at the fall leaves, ski the famed resorts nearby, or hike the Green Mountains in summer, the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport offers 15 gates in a simple terminal that meets every traveler’s needs. Six airlines service BTV: American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Sun Country, and United. Canada is close enough for a day trip and New York and New Hampshire aren’t far, either. The airport features a kids’ play area, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and even yoga classes on the second floor.
The No. 1 resort airport in America is Sarasota Braden International Airport.
Other New England airports were recognized by USA Today readers as well. The accolades for Rhode Island T.F. Green Airport keep pouring in: the airport just ranked No. 3 among the best small airports in America by USA Today (No. 1 is Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Michigan) after being named among the best airports in the U.S. by Conde Nast Traveler readers.

Meanwhile, Boston’s Logan Airport has one of the best airport lounges in America, according to USA Today readers: Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club ranked No. 4 (the top lounge is American Express Centurion Lounge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport).
For the 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards lists, USA Today travel experts select 20 nominees in topics from food to lodging, destinations to things to do. Then the publication asks readers to cast votes to determine the top 10.
