Air travel can be stressful. Cue the cuddly canines.
Harried travelers at Logan Airport are now comforted by four-legged furry friends thanks to a new therapy dog program called “BOS PAWS,” a partnership between Massport and the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
The dogs on duty at Logan include a Giant Schnauzer named Remington, a West Highland Terrier named Buster, and a French Bulldog named Waffles. Their mission: “to create a de-stressing moment for passengers,” according to Massport, while mingling with passengers in the terminals.
“At Boston Logan, we are very focused on creating a seamless and stress-free experience for travelers from the minute they walk into our terminals,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey, in a statement. “BOS PAWS will hopefully put smiles on the faces of many travelers and provide comfort to those who may feel anxious or stressed during their journey. Spend a few minutes with Waffles or Buster before your flight, you’ll love it.”
The program is another way of improving customer satisfaction, Davey told The Boston Globe. The airport recently ranked No. 10 in the the 20th annual J.D. Power 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study.
“One of our ambitions is to be a top-five mega airport in the next three years in terms of overall customer satisfaction,” Davey told the publication. “It’s not a new idea, but we’re borrowing this idea of therapy dogs. Certainly, the research shows that having pets around can reduce blood pressure and stress, and as you know, travel can be stressful for any number of reasons.”
Other improvements in experience lately at Logan, according to Massport, include faster WiFi, renovated bathrooms, and participation in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, which focuses on accessible and inclusive places for travelers with disabilities.
