  • On Feb. 25, we celebrate National Clam Chowder Day. Here are a few spots throughout New England where you can chow down on the region’s best chowdah.

  • River House Restaurant, Portsmouth, N.H.

    River House’s clam chowder won first place three years in a row at the Chowder Festival in Portsmouth’s Prescott Park – not to mention being voted “Best in New England’’ by NECN viewers.

  • Iggy’s Doughboys and Chowder House, Warwick, R.I.

    As part of CBS’s The Early Show’s “A Taste of America’’ tour, Iggy’s was featured for “Best Clam Chowder.’’ The original location in Warwick is open year-round, while the Narragansett location is open from March to Columbus Day.

  • Union Oyster House, Boston

    It’s only fitting that the oldest restaurant in continuous service in the country has great chowder. The Union Oyster House has been open since 1826, long before other chowder spots. Enjoy a New England classic at a national landmark.

  • The Old Salt Restaurant at Lamie’s Inn, Hampton, N.H.

    The restaurant at this colonial-style inn serves acclaimed and award-winning chowder. Of the thicker and creamier variety, it is also available online.

  • Legal Sea Foods, Boston

    Legal’s award-winning chowder has the distinction of having been served at the inauguration festivities of the last five US presidents. Although its flagship location is on Liberty Wharf in Boston, you can grab a bowl of its chowder at locations all across New England.

  • Cappy’s Chowder House, Camden, Maine

    Cappy’s has been making their Maine clam chowder for over three decades. The small-town restaurant’s chowder has a strong local following, and now ships anywhere.

  • Shanty on the Shore, Burlington, Vt.

    Vermont may not garner much attention from the seafood-loving crowd, but this restaurant on the shore of Lake Champlain specializes in the fare. Enjoy the view and try the chowder, which patrons swear by – in a cup, bowl, or bread bowl.

  • Cove Fresh Fish Market, Mystic, Conn.

    Though it is famous for its fish sandwiches (“Connecticut Magazine’s’’ Best Fish Sandwich in the State for the last for years), Cove’s website claims its award-winning clam chowder has sold more than 1 million servings.

  • Turner Fisheries, Boston

    This seafood restaurant in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood was noted by Boston Magazine for “Best Clam Chowder.’’ The oyster crackers are made in-house, too. f
