Experience a shark encounter in the Bahamas
BIMINI ISLAND, Bahamas — Get close to sharks in the wild, from the sunny safety of a boat, at the shark encounter at Bimini Sands Resort & Marina in the Bahamas. After dropping anchor near a coral reef, marine biologists Katie Grudecki and Grant Johnson scatter chum on the water and as many as two dozen Caribbean reef sharks, four to six feet long, madly thrash about in a feeding frenzy while the biologists talk about their ecological importance. Later, you snorkel far away from them but are still able to see some sharks in the distance. Rest easy (if you can); if you get too close, they’ll swim away, more afraid of you than you are of them.
