12 must-see lighthouses for your spring bucket list

Plus: A massive, family-friendly bar is opening on the Cape this summer.

Welcome back to Scenic Six.

I have always been captivated by lighthouses. How lucky I feel to live in New England, where there’s an abundance of them. I love learning the history of the structures and all that they have witnessed and endured. This week, I’m sharing a guide to the Massachusetts Lighthouse Trail.

I’m also sharing information about a family-friendly bar opening on Cape Cod this summer, a celebrated boardwalk in Connecticut, the upcoming New Hampshire Renaissance Faire, and more.

Visit a Massachusetts lighthouse this season

There are more than 45 lighthouses along the Massachusetts coastline, Kate Fox, the executive director of the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism told me, and the Massachusetts Lighthouse Trail highlights some of the most iconic ones. Check out 12 must-see lighthouses on the trail before mapping out your road trips this season. One of my favorites is the beautiful and remote Great Point Lighthouse on Nantucket, where I once enjoyed a picnic with friends while watching seals play in the water.

A Connecticut boardwalk worth visiting

Boardwalks are so much fun and Ocean Beach Park Boardwalk in New London, Conn. just ranked among the best in America. It has a pool, waterslides, mini golf, rides, live music, and more. I’m definitely adding it to the list of places I’d like to check out this summer.

A massive, family-friendly bar is opening on the Cape this summer

The family behind J.J. Foley’s in Boston is opening The Backyard by Foley’s this summer in Dennis Port. The 33,650 square-foot space will feature a sail-covered main bar, rotating food trucks, classic lawn games, live music, and zones for kids, all wrapped in classic string lights. We rent a house in nearby Harwich Port every summer, so I’m excited to check this place out.
