Airlines are waiving fees ahead of this weekend’s storm
Find out what your airline is doing in response to the upcoming winter storm.
Airlines are allowing itinerary changes for travelers arriving and departing from Boston ahead of what is being called a significant winter storm.
The storm will impact the eastern two-thirds of the United States this weekend, reports the Associated Press, and local meteorologists say Massachusetts will see between 12 and 20 inches of snow.
“Based on the forecasted weather conditions … our scheduled service may be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or canceled),” wrote Southwest in a travel advisory.
Massport released the following weather advisory ahead of the storm: “Due to the forecasted winter storm this weekend, many airlines are waiving change fees. Please check with your airline on the status of your flight before coming to the airport.”

JetBlue
JetBlue, a leading carrier at Logan Airport, is waiving change fees and fare differences for customers traveling Saturday, Jan. 24 through Monday, Jan. 26 to and from several cities, including Boston, the airline posted in an alert. Customers can rebook flights for travel through Saturday, Jan. 31 online in the manage trips section of jetblue.com before the departure time of the originally scheduled flight. Customers with cancelled flights can get a refund. Original travel must have been booked on or before Thursday, Jan. 22.
Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines will waive fare differences when rebooked travel occurs on or before Jan. 29 in the same cabin of service as originally booked, the airline announced in an advisory and listed impacted cities, including Boston. Change fees will be waived when rescheduled travel occurs after Jan. 29, but a difference in fare may apply.
United Airlines
United Airlines will waive change fees and fare differences and allow rescheduled trips, but the new flight must depart between Jan. 21 and Jan. 28. The tickets must be in the same cabin and between the original cities, the airline wrote in a travel notice. The airline listed the impacted cities, including Boston. The original ticket must have been purchased by Jan. 20 for travel between Jan. 24-26.
Southwest
Southwest issued a travel advisory letting customers know that travel between Friday, Jan. 23 and Monday, Jan. 26 may be rebooked in the original class of service as long as it takes place within 14 days of the original travel date and between the original cities. The airline listed the impacted cities, including Boston.
American Airlines
American Airlines customers can change their trip without paying a change fee, wrote the airline in a travel alert that listed impacted cities, including Boston. The change fee is waived in any fare class if travelers bought the ticket by Jan. 21, are scheduled to travel Jan. 24-27, can travel between Jan. 22-30, and don’t change their origin or destination city. Changes must be booked by Jan. 27.
