There’s good news for travelers worried that too much rain will ruin their vacation: JetBlue now offers protection for that.
JetBlue announced on Thursday that it has partnered with WeatherPromise to offer trip protection in the event of “excessive rain,” one of the most common vacation concerns. The tech company, which launched in 2024, says this is its first airline partnership.
“This first-of-its-kind coverage allows customers booking through JetBlue Vacations to be reimbursed if their getaway experiences significant rainfall, relieving worries that bad weather will cost them their trip,” according to JetBlue.
JetBlue customers who book eligible Flight + Hotel vacation packages through JetBlue Vacations are offered the insurance at the time of purchase. Travelers can receive protection for all aspects of a trip, according to the airline, including car rentals and activities.
“Excessive rain” is determined by WeatherPromise based on the destination, trip length, and historical weather data over the last 20 years. If the rainfall at the destination meets the “qualifying threshold,” customers are reimbursed automatically, there is no paperwork involved, and they still get to take the trip. WeatherPromise calls it a “weather guarantee.”
“Travel should be exciting, not stressful, and our partnership with WeatherPromise is another way we’re making that a reality,” said Jamie Perry, president of JetBlue Travel Products, in a statement. “When customers book through JetBlue Vacations, they’re choosing a travel brand they trust to support them every step of the way. We know how important vacations are, and by offering coverage against weather disruptions, we’re ensuring our customers can focus on enjoying their trips with confidence and peace of mind.”
WeatherPromise uses an advanced weather-tracking system in which millions of data points are assessed for each trip, according to JetBlue, and weather conditions are monitored using weather stations, satellite imagery, and radar.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with JetBlue Vacations to give customers seamless, worry-free trips,” said Daniel Price, co-founder of WeatherPromise, in a statement.
