Appearing on ESPN’s The Jump with Rachel Nichols, former Celtics guard Rajon Rondo apologized for the homophobic remarks he made to an NBA referee in December. And Rondo also offered his condolences to the LGBTQ community in the wake of the mass shooting in Orlando.

Rondo, who played for the Sacramento Kings in the 2015-2016 NBA season, was suspended for one game following his usage of a homophobic slur directed at referee Bill Kennedy. In an interview with Nichols (watch the full video here), Rondo offered another apology for the incident in the context of the Orlando tragedy:

Yeah, definitely I want to apologize again for my actions earlier on in the year. That’s not who I am if you know me. I want to send my thoughts and prayers out to the LGBTQ community. I think the only thing that is going to stop all this madness is love. The only thing that can conquer hate is love. I think that’s what we need to do is love one another. And my prayers and thoughts out to the family and community of Orlando.
