Remember how Shawn Thornton trashed his skates after his final NHL game? They’re now on eBay.

Shawn Thornton promised — for the sake of the Florida Panthers’ equipment manager — that he would throw his skates in the garbage after playing his final NHL game.

Thornton followed through on that promise last week.

But if there are any fans who are nonetheless interested in owning the 39-year-old former Bruins winger’s final game-worn skates, now’s your chance. After being pulled from the trash by Panthers employees, the skates have been listed on eBay by Thornton’s charitable foundation.

According to a spokesman for the Shawn Thornton Foundation, the skates immediately received such a high volume of bids after being initially listed Thursday that eBay had to temporarily shut down the auction. Bidding has since resumed, and Thornton’s size-10 Reebok Ribcors had fetched offers of more than $750 by noon Sunday.

Not bad for former garbage.

All proceeds from the auction, which ends Tuesday, will go to the Thornton Foundation.

According to its website, the foundation seeks to help find cures for Parkinson’s disease and cancer through “raising awareness, funding innovative research and helping to relieve the burden and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.”
