“The only thing that hurts is, honestly, like my quads, my feet feel great though,” Concannon said.

A man who ran the 2026 Boston Marathon barefoot is now recovering, and his feet are somehow feeling “great,” the runner said.

Terrence Concannon, 24, made the bold decision to compete in the Boston Marathon barefoot, which is “probably [a] one and done” experience, he said.

The Hingham native trained for the marathon in just 40 days. The farthest he had run prior to the marathon was 16 miles, Concannon told Boston.com.

“A couple weeks ago I did 16 miles in Tampa, and my feet were hurting so bad I thought I had, like, a stress fracture,” Concannon said.

But, on Monday, despite being concerned about the weather, Concannon ran the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston and finished in 03:57:23, BAA results show

“The only thing that hurts is, honestly, like my quads, my feet feel great though,” Concannon said.

Throughout the race, onlookers gradually realized Concannon was running sans shoes, he said.

“More and more people started to figure out I was running barefoot, so the hype kind of built which was awesome,” Concannon said.

Seeing a runner barefoot may seem out of the ordinary, with a local TV station even reporting he was “some random man [that] hopped in the race,” Concannon said.

“I had my number on my shorts so a lot of people couldn’t really see the number. So I know that was kind of confusing with some people,” Concannon said.
