Morning sports update: Steelers kicker deleted his Twitter account after old tweets showed homophobic and racial slurs

The Patriots came up short in Pittsburgh to the Steelers on Sunday, 17-10. The Bruins also lost, falling to the Sabres, 4-2.
Steelers kicker deleted Twitter account after old tweets surface: For the second week in a row, Steelers kicker Chris Boswell had an imperfect day on the football field, missing a 32-yard field goal. And whether it was because Steelers fans wanted to get Boswell fired due to his inconsistency – as has been speculated – or simply due to increased attention, old tweets from Boswell began emerging on Sunday.
The 27-year-old used both homophobic and racial slurs on Twitter in tweets from several years ago. Boswell responded by deleting his Twitter account and disabling comments on his Instagram.
After Boswell hit a 48-yard field late in the game to compensate for his missed kick, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin voiced support for Boswell, saying that, “He’s our kicker from start to finish.”

The end of the Patriots dynasty?
With another uncharacteristically sloppy loss, the Patriots continue to stumble down the stretch. Though New England is usually reaching full speed on a late-season run in December, 2018 has been different.
“Suddenly the shoe is on the other foot. The tomatoes are in the other can,” wrote Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy.
J.C. Jackson continues to to play well despite loss: One bright spot in an otherwise disappointing day for the Patriots in Pittsburgh was the continued performance of undrafted rookie cornerback J.C. Jackson, who broke up a crucial third down pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster in the fourth quarter. [NESN]
