Fox will not televise anthem at Patriots-Panthers game
Fox Sports president Eric Shanks told Newsday his network isn’t planning on showing the national anthem during the Patriots-Panthers broadcast Sunday – the network’s only game of the day.
“The standard procedure is not to show them because of the way the commercial format works and the timing of the anthem to get to the kickoff,’’ Shanks said. “So I think we’re going to pay attention to events. Who knows what’s going to happen? A lot of time is happening between now and then. But I think the plan would be to get back to a normal schedule.’’
Danny Amendola indicated Wednesday that the Patriots will be standing for the Star-Spangled Banner, and captain Devin McCourty said Thursday that whatever the team does during the anthem will be done together.
Last week, 18 Patriots kneeled while others linked arms as a protest to President Trump’s criticism of players who kneeled during the anthem.
