Tom Brady posted a Memorial Day message on Facebook giving thanks to the men and women who serve our country and highlighting a charity in the memory of one veteran in particular: former NFL player and Army Ranger Pat Tillman.
“I would encourage us all to remember and honor the brave men and women who have fought for our country to preserve the freedoms we enjoy,” Brady wrote. “I would also like to honor Pat Tillman, who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving our country.”

“Pat was a great NFL player with a bright future when he chose to leave the NFL and enlist in the Army Rangers,” Brady’s post continued. “I was fortunate to play against Pat and his brother in high school. He was an exceptional person, warrior and hero in every way.”
Brady also asked his Facebook followers to donate to his friend, Michael Cheney, who is raising money for the Pat Tillman Foundation with a 2,711-mile bike ride from Canada to Mexico along the Great Divide. So far, Cheney’s fundraising website has raised more than $2,500.
After four seasons in the NFL as a member of the Arizona Cardinals, Tillman left the league and enlisted in the Army. He was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004. The Pat Tillman Foundation invests in military veterans and their spouses through academic scholarships, according to the organization’s website.
