Tom Brady’s niece is tearing up the high school softball scene

That certainly looks the face of a proud uncle. AP

Tom Brady is hardly the only one in the family with a decent arm.

Maya Brady, the niece of the Patriots quarterback, is making a name for herself on the California high school softball circuit.

So much so that, according to the Ventura County Star, the freshman shortstop has already verbally committed to play at UCLA.

Batting left-handed and leading off for Oaks Christian School, Maya led the private Westlake Village prep school team to a 27-1-1 record and the local league title, posting a tremendous stat line along the way.

Per the County Star:

Brady is batting .391 with 36 hits, 30 runs scored, 12 RBIs and seven doubles for Oaks Christian. She is 13 for 13 on stolen-base attempts and has a .931 fielding percentage.

Did we mention she is just a freshman? No wonder UCLA came calling.

Maya said she listens to every piece of advice her famous uncle has to offer, though it usually isn’t specifically about softball.

Not that the quarterback doesn’t have at least some expertise on the diamond. A two-sport standout athlete at Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, California, Brady was drafted in 1995 by the Montreal Expos. However, the “promising left-handed-hitting catcher” opted to go on to play football at the University of Michigan.

Maya has also dabbled in multiple sports. According to the County Star, she has played soccer, volleyball, golf, gymnastics, and ran track. But eventually she settled on softball, the sport in which her mother, Maureen, one of Brady’s three older sisters, also flourished.

A former All-American pitcher at Fresno State University, Maureen Brady posted a 110-10 career record with 29 no-hitters, 14 perfect games, and two section titles for her San Mateo high school softball team.

“Given the athletes in the family, it’s definitely hard to make your mark. It’s hard to pass up someone who wins the Super Bowl,” Maya told the County Star. “But hopefully in the future I can make my own mark and say look what I did in my career.”
