Tom Brady’s ‘trust score’ continues to nosedive
Public trust in Tom Brady has deflated.
Back in February, after winning the Super Bowl, the New England Patriots quarterback enjoyed a “trust score’’ in the top quartile of more than 3,750 celebrities, as indexed by sports and entertainment research firm Repucom, according to The New York Times.
By the time the Wells Report came out in May, trust in Brady had dropped from 863rd to 3,097th. After a marginal increase, The Times reported Wednesday that Brady’s trust score following his suspension appeal had plunged to 3,635th out of the 3,755 celebrities, at the same tier currently as Macauley Culkin and Britney Spears.
The Boston Globereported in May that Brady’s “likability and merchandising potential’’ had fallen to the bottom 3 percent of celebrities surveyed by promotion agency The Marketing Arm, with the likes of Spears, 50 cent and Rex Ryan.
None of Brady’s commercial endorsers, including Uggs and Under Armour, have sacked the Super Bowl-winning quarterback. However, as a financial portfolio manager told The Globe, “The team and Brady can both appeal the decision, but the brand damage has been done.’’
According to The Times, other athletes, including Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, and Michael Phelps, have been able to rebound in the eye of the public following their respective scandals.
The appeal of Brady’s four-game Deflategate suspension — upheld by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and then re-appealed in federal court.
