Bills Trade for Former Patriots QB Matt Cassel
The Buffalo Bills continue to shake up the roster and rebuild the offense. One day after agreeing to send promising young linebacker Kiko Alonso to the Eagles for star running back LeSean McCoy, the Bills have agreed to a deal to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel from the Vikings, the team announced.

Cassel played with the Patriots from 2005-2008, and started 15 games in 2008 after Tom Brady’s season ended with a torn ACL in Week 1. Cassel threw 21 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 2008, and was traded to the Chiefs the following offseason.
Cassel tossed 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in 2010, his best season. He struggled mightily the next two seasons, and moved on to Minnesota, where he played 12 games over a two-year span.
The McCoy and Cassel trades are making the Bills relevant this offseason, but only time will tell if the 9-7 Bills will be any better in 2015. If Cassel beats out 2013 first round pick E.J. Manuel for the starting job, Buffalo will have to hope the former Patriot can turn back the clock to 2008 or 2010.
