Patriots Are People, Too: Casey Walker Is a Barber (and Wants To Be a Mind Reader)

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Each week, here on the Extra Points blog, we will get to know a few fun facts about a particular Patriots player. Defensive tackle Casey Walker is the subject of this week’s interview, and boy, is that man funny.
Erik Frenz: Tell me one thing about yourself that I wouldn’t find in a Google search.
Casey Walker: I cut hair.
EF: Are you the team barber?
CW: Nobody knows around here, but I was at Oklahoma. I had a barber shop.
EF: Who was your favorite guy to cut?
CW: Didn’t matter. Anybody.
EF: Did you have a specialty? Crop cuts?
CW: I do it all! I do everything.
EF: If a Patriots fan could get a drink with one player on the team, who would you suggest?
CW: I guess Tom Brady. I mean, hey, who wouldn’t want to drink with Tom Brady, you know?
EF: Where are you from, and how does Foxborough compare to your hometown?
CW: I’m from Dallas. It’s extremely small. And it gets really, really cold.
EF: You think it’s cold now?!
CW: I’m freezing, so they say it’s going to get worse. I don’t want to see what worse looks like!
EF: Get ready to shovel your car out. It’s not going to be fun. So what’s your favorite thing about football season, and least favorite thing, if you have one?
CW: My favorite thing about football season is football season. I get to put pads on and play the game that I love. Least favorite thing…I have to say training camp. Yeah. That’s the worst. It’s so long. Your days are extremely long — I wouldn’t even know what day of the week it was, if it was Monday or Wednesday. It’s just all one blur.
EF: Believe it or not, it’s like that for us, too. So who do you think is the funniest guy on the team?
CW: Don Jones! Hilarious.
EF: Do you have any examples you can share with me?
CW: Nah, I can’t do that.
EF: That’s fine. So do you have any unique pregame rituals, maybe a certain food you eat or music you listen to before each game?
CW: I put my socks and shoes on starting with my left foot and then go to the right foot.
EF: What did it feel like the moment you found out you’d be playing for the Patriots?
CW: It was a big-time relief. For one, I want to play, and I really couldn’t showcase what I can do on the practice squad, because I’m reading what the card says. Number two, the bump in pay. That’s always a good thing.
EF: What’s your favorite play you’ve ever made in your career — at any level?
CW: Oklahoma vs. Texas. It was the first sack of the night, in the first quarter. It was my first against Texas, and I got a sack-fumble.
EF: What would you say is the proudest moment of your playing career?
CW: I guess getting to the NFL. Everybody wants to do it, but not everybody can do it. I was blessed to be one of the few that stuck in.
EF: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why? And you can’t say flying because a couple of your teammates have already used that.
CW: Haha, no, I don’t want to fly, man. I’m scared of heights. I would want to read minds. I would want to know what the offensive line is about to do so I can beat them to it, or read the quarterback’s mind and find out what the play is. Then I’d be All-Pro, I’d play for about 20 years, and my pension would be set!
