Morning sports update: Kevin Durant says free agent decision wasn’t ‘planned’ with Kyrie Irving
"It just came together."
The Red Sox and Royals game was suspended in extra innings on Wednesday night tied 4-4 due to rain. The game will be picked up on Aug. 22 at 1:05 p.m.
The Patriots play the first preseason game of the team’s season tonight in Detroit against the Lions at 7:30 p.m. EST.
Kevin Durant didn’t plan joining the Nets with Kyrie Irving: In a recent interview, Kevin Durant discussed his eventful 2019, including signing with the Nets in free agency. Durant joined Brooklyn along with Kyrie Irving, a partnership that was speculated about for months in advance.
Yet in the interview with Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, Durant refuted the notion that he planned teaming up with Irving beforehand.
“I think the friendship part of the league has really grown, especially since LeBron James and Dwyane Wade became such great friends and ended up playing together,” Durant told Haynes. “People see friendship as the way guys are teaming up. There’s nothing wrong with people speculating. That’s just what it is, but we’re just good friends no matter what. We didn’t have to play together. It wasn’t necessary. But, we were friends before anything, and we just happened to want to hoop together. But it wasn’t a thing we planned. It just came together.”
