David Ross is joining ESPN as an analyst
The former Red Sox and Cubs catcher is bringing his insights into the booth.
David Ross enjoyed a dream-come-true ending to his first career. Now he’s ready to start his new one. Or one of his new ones.
Ross, the affable veteran catcher who won a title with the ’13 Red Sox and hit a crucial home run in Game 7 of the ’16 World Series as the Cubs broke their decades-long championship drought, is joining ESPN as a baseball analyst.
That’s not the only post-playing-career gig the 39-year-old, known as Grampa Rossy to his Cubs teammates, has landed. He was recently named a special assistant to the Cubs baseball operations department as well.
ESPN’s announcement was vague about the specifics of Ross’s new role, but said he will provide analysis on a variety of platforms, including MLB studio coverage, SportsCenter, and select games.
Ross has previously provided analysis for ESPN as a guest during the 2014 and 2015 postseasons. The 15-year MLB veteran retired this past fall. He had two stints with the Red Sox, for just eight games in 2008 and more memorably in 2013-14.
