Red Sox fans will hear John Sterling’s voice on WEEI for an inning during upcoming Yankees series
"Theeeeeeeeeeeee Red Sox win."
Red Sox fans may hear an ominous noise emanating from their radios during Tuesday’s series opener against the Yankees. But there’s no need to adjust the dials. What you’re hearing is normal.
John Sterling, the longtime voice of the rival Yankees, will take over the call of the game on WEEI for the fourth inning.
In exchange, Red Sox play-by-play announcer Joe Castiglione will head to the WFAN booth to call the game for Yankees fans. First pitch is scheduled to get underway at 1:05 p.m.
Make sure you tune in a week from today for the “Rivalry In The Booth” when Joe joins Suzyn Waldman on @WFAN660 & @Yankees radio and John Sterling joins me on @WEEI & @RedSox radio during the 4th inning. @SoxBooth #RedSox #DirtyWater pic.twitter.com/pTFe2ariGt

The “Rivalry in the Booth” segment will last for a single inning during the opening game of the series, but will reverberate around the baseball world. Both Castiglione and Sterling have called some of the most intense games in the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry over the last quarter century.
Castiglione has been involved with the Red Sox broadcast since 1983.
Sterling began calling Yankees games on radio in 1989. Prior to that, he spent nine years in Atlanta where – among other roles – he called Hawks games. This included Larry Bird’s 60-point game in 1985.
The Red Sox only need to win one game in the series to clinch the American League East crown for the third year in a row (as the team’s magic number is down to two).
