Mike Timlin responds to criticisms about his broadcasting skills
Former Red Sox relief pitcher Mike Timlin tried his hand at color commentating this past week, as he joined play-by-play announcer Dave O’Brien in the NESN broadcast booth for six games.
After his first night, the 18-season baseball veteran reminded his Twitter followers that he’s only a rookie when it comes to sportscasting—in hopes that viewers wouldn’t be “too harsh” on him.
Just remember I am a rookie in this arena!! So try not to be to harsh on me. Hahaha

Turns out that wouldn’t be the case.
While some praised Timlin for predicting recent Pawtucket call-up Rafael Devers’ first home run…
Nice call by Mike Timlin: All but called Rafael Devers’s first career homer.

Mike Timlin: “I have a feeling we’re going to see some fireworks right here.”

…other fans were not as impressed by the 51-year-old’s overall skills.

Following his final night in the booth, Timlin took to Twitter to thank O’Brien and said he had a “great time.” He also had a few words for his critics: “For everyone that commented on my work this week. Next time you FREAKING try it. #notthateasy.”
Had a great time on the air with @Dave OBrien. Thanks for everything you are a true pro.
