Red Sox rumor roundup: Mets reportedly sending Addison Reed to Boston
As the Red Sox prepare to gear up for a stretch run in the American League East, reports swirl about possible moves prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
Here’s a look at the latest Red Sox trade rumors:
Monday, July 31
After Reed, Red Sox reportedly “satisfied” with the state of the bullpen:
red sox seem satisfied w/ pen after landing dependable, clutch addison. kintzler being talks more about by other teams now. next twin to go?

Starting pitcher Yu Darvish has reportedly included the Red Sox on his “no-trade list”:

Red Sox acquire third baseman Eduardo Nunez from Giants: Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said early Wednesday that the Nunez move may not be the end of his deal-making before Monday’s trade deadline, and he acknowledged Nunez does not provide the team with the power bat they need. (The Boston Globe)

The Red Sox are reportedly interested in adding Phillies relief pitcher Pat Neshek:
Market for Pat Neshek getting competitive. Nationals, Dodgers and Red Sox among teams scouting him closely, per source.

Red Sox call up Rafael Devers
: Devers, viewed as one of the best offensive prospects in the game, was only promoted to Pawtucket on July 14. Since then, the Yankees acquired third baseman Todd Frazier from the White Sox, and the Red Sox ate the remaining contract of Pablo Sandoval and released him. (The Boston Globe)
It’s (nearly) time for the Red Sox to widen their search at the deadline: But if Ramirez can keep playing first base, it would free up Dombrowski to pursue the best available slugger regardless of position. The Red Sox could go after, say, Jay Bruce or Lucas Duda of the New York Mets, Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton or even Bautista or Alonso. (ESPN)

Here are some out-of-the-box third base options for the Red Sox: One scout suggested Jose Bautista, who began his career as a super utility player. Bautista has played 389 career games at the hot corner, including parts of three games (11 innings) this season. The scout reasoned that Bautista wouldn’t be a Gold Glover by any means, but could he provide basic coverage at a position he’s very familiar with in addition to covering you in the outfield and first base? The scout thought this was an avenue to pursue. (The Boston Globe)
The Red Sox are reportedly one of the teams interested in Marlins relief pitcher A.J. Ramos:
aj ramos, who picked up 18th save, is drawing good interest and may be next to go for marlins. dbacks, rox, rays, bosox, brewers, cubs, more

A quick update on how the Red Sox reportedly prioritize third base options:
wilmer flores can hit. red sox probably have lowrie, harrison, nunez higher on their 3b list. but bill flowers can rake (h/t @MarcCarig)
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 20, 2017
The Red Sox are reportedly one of several teams interested in relief pitcher Justin Wilson:
Sources: #Nationals among teams in mix for #Tigers‘ J. Wilson. Won’t move Robles, Fedde, Soto. #RedSox, #Dodgers, #Astros, others also in.

“Desperate” Red Sox eye San Francisco’s Eduardo Nunez:
The Boston #Redsox, desperately searching for a third baseman, have their eye on #SFGiants Eduardo Nunez, who has been made available.

The Red Sox are reportedly looking at several Mets:
red sox scouted 3 mets — flores as well as asdrubal and (tj) rivera — as 3b alternatives. lowrie, harrison, solarte also seen as in mix

Yankees get Frazier, Robertson, Kahnle from White Sox:
The New York Yankees made an early push for playoff run Tuesday night, acquiring infielder Todd Frazier and relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle from the Chicago White Sox for reliever Tyler Clippard and three prospects. (Associated Press)
Third base prospect Rafael Devers is reportedly off the table in any trade discussions:
Re: Red Sox and the deadline, I’m hearing that 3B Rafael Devers is not available in any deal.
— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) July 18, 2017
Could Orioles, Red Sox work out Machado trade? Once the Orioles go down that path, it only makes sense for them to at least call other teams and ask, ‘Hey, what would you give us for Manny Machado? What would you give us for Adam Jones.’ Machado in particular. He’s a free agent after 2018. There’s no expectation within the industry that the Orioles are going to sign him to keep him out of free agency. So if you know you’re probably not going to win in 2018, you might as well put Machado out there and see if you can draw a big offer from a team like the Red Sox, who right now have a big hole at third base. (ESPN)

Jed Lowrie could potentially be a trade target:
have heard redsox very much like old friend jed lowrie, too, as written before. so he’s a possibility for them to play 3B as well.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) July 17, 2017
Several names emerge in Red Sox’ quest for third baseman: Todd Frazier of the White Sox could very well be that guy they trade for but according to an American League source familiar with the Red Sox’ thinking, the ballclub is scouting and doing its due diligence on at least six other third basemen/infielders.
Those players are: New York Mets T.J. Rivera and Asdrubal Cabrera, Pittsburgh’s David Freese and Josh Harrison, San Francisco’s Eduardo Nunez and Miami’s Martin Prado. (The Boston Herald)
Red Sox reportedly interested in Oakland A’s first baseman Yonder Alonso:
The Red Sox, who are also trying to fill their void at third base, could also be in the mix. Mitch Moreland has fallen into an untimely slump, hitting .169 with a .528 OPS since June 15.
Are Red Sox bidding against themselves for Todd Frazier?: Of clubs owning the 17 worst OPS for the third base position are almost all non-contenders, with the Angels (22nd), Yankees (24th) and Red Sox (29th) serving as the only needy teams. And, really, the odds of Los Angeles (46-49) approaching the deadline as buyers seems like a long-shot considering their best hope is leap-frogging five teams in the Wild Card race. The Yankees? Chase Headley isn’t an exacty an inspiring choice, hitting .258 with a .712 OPS and four homers. But it’s not Pablo Sandoval bad, and Headley does have one more year left on his four-year, $52 million deal after this one. (WEEI)
