David Price isn’t afraid to pitch to Madison Bumgarner
David Price has pitched to a number of pitchers throughout his career, but he’s never faced Madison Bumgarner, who has a pair of homers at the plate this season and wants to compete in the Home Run Derby.
While pitchers are typically an easy out, Bumgarner has proved just the opposite.

“I don’t think I’ve faced an opposing pitcher that’s had home runs,” Price told the Providence Journal. “It’s not going to change the way I approach the game. Whenever I do throw in interleague games at the National League, I don’t treat the pitcher any differently. I’m not sitting up there – ‘I’m going to throw you fastballs, so hopefully you throw me fastballs.’ So that’s not the case. No, I’m going to pitch him like I’ll pitch anyone else: Try to get ahead and get outs early.”
Bumgarner has 13 homers in 399 career at-bats. While he’s got a .156 batting average in 2016, he posted a .247 average in 2015 and a career-high .258 average in 2014.
