Joe Kelly suffers groin injury during Triple-A Pawtucket start
Joe Kelly suffered a groin injury during a start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.
The righty threw 79 pitches in 4.2 innings during his first start with the PawSox since getting demoted last week. He allowed three earned runs on six hits in Pawtucket’s 3-2 loss to Toledo.
“He felt some discomfort in his right groin,” PawSox manager Kevin Boles told the Providence Journal. “We’re going to reevaluate him and see how he comes in tomorrow.”
Kelly’s injury comes at a time when the Red Sox are in need of a fifth starter.
