Papi extends lead

So much for that.

During the offseason, one of the Yankees’ more important bullpen acquisitions was lefty reliever Mike Myers, the former Red Sox hurler, who was going to be called upon often in pressure situations against Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.

Well, Round One goes to Ortiz, who slugged a three-run home run off his former teammate in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend the Red Sox’ lead to 7-3 over the Yankees.

It was the first earned run against Myers this season.
