Doug Mirabelli received a standing ovation when he strolled to the plate for the first time in the bottom of the second. He hacked furiously on the first pitch he saw from Chien Ming Wang, going for the dramatic return home run. A couple of pitches later, Mirabelli grounded weakly to short.

The fans have loved Mirabelli’s return. Wakefield has allowed just one hit through three innings – and no passed balls – and Mirabelli even threw out Bubba Crosby attempting to steal second base in the third.

  • The fans in the center field bleachers have been taunting Johnny Damon with “Traitor” chants since the first inning. When he came to the plate in the top of the third, a “Johnny s—–” chant began to arise.
