High on Lowell

It’s hard to say which player in the Josh Beckett deal had the better Opening Day with his new team, Mike Lowell or Josh Beckett himself.

While Beckett tossed seven innings of three-hit ball Lowell was blistering hot at the plate, pounding out four hits, including three doubles. It was the fifth career four-hit day for Lowell, and the fourth game in his career in which he has had three doubles.

So much for that slow bat, I suppose.

Jonathan Papelbon emerged from the bullpen doors to a standing ovation to start the ninth.
