Tens of thousands of spectators will crowd the streets of Boston as roughly 30,000 runners take on the 130th Boston Marathon this Marathon Monday.
Your favorite runner might be out there, but spotting them isn’t always easy.
Here’s how to track them in real time.
The Boston Athletic Association offers a free app with live runner tracking, interactive course maps, and leaderboards. You can even follow fundraising totals for each runner. It was recently relaunched ahead of race day, a BAA spokesperson told Boston.com.
The BAA Racing App is available on both the App Store and Google Play.
The BAA website also offers live tracking. Search by a runner’s name or bib number to follow their progress in real time — or check results after they cross the finish line. The “tracking” and “results” search functionality will be available the day of the marathon.
For a bigger view, TV coverage might be your best bet.
In the Boston area, WCVB Channel 5 (ABC) begins exclusive live coverage at 4 a.m. on Marathon Monday. You can also stream via the Very Local app.
Regional coverage will also air on partner stations in New England: WMUR News 9 ABC (Manchester, New Hampshire), WMTW Channel 8 ABC (Portland/Auburn, Maine), and WPTZ NBC5 (Burlington, Vermont/Plattsburgh, New York).
National audiences can tune in to ESPN2 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EST. ESPN will feature additional coverage throughout the day on SportsCenter.
After the race ends, make sure to look up official results by athlete name or bib number on the BAA website or in the BAA Racing App.
Spectators can watch their favorite runners cross the finish line on WCVB’s “Find Your Finish” camera, which posts rolling clips of runners crossing the line in 30- to 60-minute segments. Look for the dedicated “Find Your Finish” article on the WCVB website or in the WCVB app immediately following the race.
