Kelly Oubre Jr. said he was not surprised by Boston’s profane chants

After serving his one-game suspension for charging at Kelly Olynyk in Game 3, Washington forward Kelly Oubre Jr. anticipated a less-than-lukewarm welcome at the Garden for Game 5 between the Celtics and Wizards.

“A lot of people are going to be booing me tonight,” he told the Washington Post during the team’s afternoon shoot-around on Wednesday.

Well, the Celtics fanbase gave him so much more. What started as a demand for Oubre to enter the game…

…quickly evolved into a profane chant once the crowd got what they wanted.

After the game, Oubre said that the jeers were “definitely expected.”

Wizards teammate John Wall, however, didn’t think they were going to hear “those types of words.”

“They’re gonna do what they want to do.” Wall said in a postgame interview. “I think Kelly did a great job of handling it. He didn’t let it bother him. He kept playing basketball.”

“We told him what we were gonna expect from the crowd,” he continued. “We didn’t think those types of words, but all you can do is go out and play basketball. We as brothers, we stick behind him.”

On the brink of elimination, the Wizards will host the Celtics for Game 6 on Friday.
