Celtics Clinch Playoff Berth With Brooklyn’s Loss to Chicago
The 2015 Boston Celtics are playoff bound.
The Chicago Bulls beat the Brooklyn Nets Monday night, clinching a playoff spot for the Celtics. One more Boston win or one more Pacers loss (each team has two games remaining) assures the Celtics will be the seven seed, matched up against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. A pair of Pacers wins and two Celtics losses will place the Celtics in the eighth slot, matching up against the Atlanta Hawks.
No one saw this coming. There seemed to be a better chance of seeing a real leprechaun on the parquet floor at TD Garden than there was of seeing a playoff game in 2015. But basketball games aren’t played on paper, and the Celtics capitalized on a weak Eastern Conference.
Danny Ainge built it, Brad Stevens steered it, and this Celtics team exceeded all expectations. They’ll be playing with house money when the playoffs start next week. Whether it be LeBron James and the Cavs or the East’s top team in the Hawks that show up in Game 3, the playoff atmosphere will be back in the city of Boston.
