Heat’s Hassan Whiteside Suspended for Cheap Shot on Kelly Olynyk
A cheap shot to Kelly Olynyk earned Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside an ejection from Monday’s game against the Celtics, but that wasn’t the only punishment the Miami Heat center received for his actions.
The NBA announced on Tuesday that Whiteside has been suspended for one game for his elbow to the back of Olynyk’s neck. The league says he will serve his suspension on Wednesday when the Heat take on the Brooklyn Nets.

As seen in the video above, Whiteside hit Olynyk with a blindside elbow with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter. He received a flagrant-2 foul for the act and was tossed from the game, which the Celtics would go on to win, 100-90.
After the game, Heat guard Dwyane Wade was highly critical of Whiteside’s actions. Whiteside has seen time in 35 games this year, playing 22 minutes per game and averaging 10.9 points and 9.8 rebounds per game while shooting 65.5 percent from the field.
Whiteside was taken in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings in 2010, playing 19 games over two seasons in Sacramento before joining the Heat this year.
