Celtics 88, Bulls 87 (End third quarter)
Note: Ben Gordon’s shot at the 2:09 mark of the quarter was reviewed and changed from a two-pointer to a three-pointer between quarters.
He’s back. Now maybe his team can climb aboard.
Ray Allen hit his free three-pointer of the series at the 9:22 mark of the third quarter. That shot came minutes after a three-point play on a floater in the lane. The silky smooth shooting guard scored 16 points in the quarter and now has 18 points in the game.
But despite Allen’s emergence, this is still anybody’s game heading into the fourth quarter.
Kendrick Perkins backed down Joakim Noah at the 7:02 mark of the third quarter and drew a foul. Noah then tried to stare down Perkins, who calmly walked away from the situation, not an insignificant thing for someone as intense as Perkins. Noah was called for a technical, and his teammate Ben Gordon immediately ran over to him, took two fistfuls of his jersey, and told him to cool it.
The incident fired up the home crowd and seemed to unnerve the Bulls, and especially the excitable Noah, who picked up three personals and that technical in the quarter.
Glen Davis is pacing the Celtics with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Ben Gordon has 28 points for the Bulls.
