Boston Celtics

Bulls 61, Celtics 58 (End second quarter)

It was a terrible second quarter for the home team.

The Celtics started the quarter with a six-point lead, but Brad Miller nailed a three-pointer at the 9:14 mark to put the Bulls up, 36-35. Doc Rivers picked up a technical foul during the timeout following Miller’s shot.

The Celtics built the lead back up to 43-36 at the 7:26 mark in the quarter, but the Bulls outscored Boston 25-15 to end the half.

The point guards were the story in the second. After picking up two quick fouls and going scoreless in the first quarter, Derrick Rose missed badly on a shot early in the second. He scored his first points on a layup with 7:15 remaining in the second quarter and finished the half with 6 points.

Rajon Rondo (15 points), who left the game with just over five minutes left in the quarter after having his leg buckle under him, did not return for the rest of the half and returned to the Celtics locker room. The team says he has a mild right ankle sprain. He is expected to return for the second half.

Glen Davis (14 points) showed a little emotion early in the second, writhing on the ground in delight after throwing a shot fake on Tyrus Thomas and driving to the rim for a layup and foul at the 7:33 mark in the second.

Lots of complaints about the officiating from the home crowd. The Bulls have taken 24 free throws to just 13 for the Celtics. Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, and Robert Kraft are among those in the crowd tonight.
