Allen, Rondo say Marbury should help

TD BANKNORTH GARDEN — Veteran Celtics guard Ray Allen said tonight he expects Stephon Marbury to do well with the Celtics, but warns that there might be an adjustment period.

“It is a lot,” said Allen. “You’re talking about us being around each other for a training camp and then going into the season and still trying to get yourself accustomed to it. And we want them to be ready, we sign them one day and want them to be ready by the next.”

Rajon Rondo said Marbury’s veteran presence can only help the team.

“It’s the same thing same situation [as bringing in Sam Cassell last season],” said Rondo. “You bring a veteran guy in to help us. It may be a little bit different now. Sam was a scorer but Stephon is more of a guy that can score in this league. I think he’s averaging like almost 20 points in this league in his career so he can definitely score off the bench.

“This year our schedule is a little bit more relaxed the second half of the season so we have more time to practice and to mold those guys into our offense and the style of play that we play. So hopefully, it won’t take that long.”

It’s worth noting that Marbury’s new locker is where Cassell’s used to be: right next to Kevin Garnett.
