Rip city

Pistons guard Rip Hamilton is one of the league’s best mid-range players. He prides himself on being one of the NBA’s best conditioned players, running off screens until he loses his man and frees himself up for a shot.

It isn’t fancy, but Hamilton gets it done.

“He’s as good as anyone in the league, and he does it off of movement without the ball, which is even more rare,” said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. “Most of the guys, the great in-between players, do it off the bounce, and he doesn’t. He can, but he does it without the ball, and catch, one dribble, and does it, which is really rare in our game. You don’t see it a lot. You haven’t seen it historically a lot, but he does it as well as anybody.”

Pistons coach Flip Saunders says Hamilton’s style of play can help him stay under the radar.

“People kind of forget about [him]but yet you look at [him] after the game, and all of a sudden he has 25, 27 points, and he puts so much pressure as far as on the defense,” said Saunders. “That’s kind of how Rip is.”
