Manu being Manu
LeBron James has been the focus of the 2007 NBA Finals, but two other players are generating a buzz exceeded only by the 22-year-old superstar: Manu Ginobili and Fabricio Oberto.
The two Argentinian players are immensely popular in their soccer-obsessed home country. The country’s two largest newspapers, La Nacion and Clarin, both have correspondents covering the series in San Antonio. Argentina’s sports-only newspaper, Ole, also sent a correspondent.
Ole was updating its website live during the game last night, despite the fact that the soccer team Boca secured a birth in the Copa Libertadores final at the same time.
The Spurs were the lead story on the sports section of La Nacion. They’ve also built a special reports page for Argentinian-born NBA players.
And Clarin’s reporter has been keeping a diary from the Finals.
