Boston Celtics

The big day

The wait is almost over.

The 2007 NBA Draft Lottery is tonight at 8:30 p.m. (on ESPN), and with it comes months of nail-biting anticipation. For those of you not shutting yourselves in your basement, there are a couple of lottery-related events in town this evening.

  • Celtics guard Delonte West will be at Clery’s (113 Dartmouth Street, Boston) for a team-sponsored party starting at 7:30 p.m. Celtics fans can “wish the team good luck by bringing their own good luck charms and smoking Red Auerbach’s favorite brand of cigar,” according to the press release.
  • WEEI’s Michael Holley will be present at another lottery party tonight, this one at Hurricane O’Reilly’s (150 Canal Street, Boston). Celtics instant lottery tickets will be on sale, according to the press release. Those should be a hot item if the Celtics land the No. 1 pick.

Someone who almost certainly won’t be present at any lottery parties is Celtics captain Paul Pierce. If we are to believe Pierce’s statements to reporters at the end of last season, he’ll be on a beach somewhere in Southern California.

Keep it here for live updates from Boston Globe reporters throughout the evening.
