Gotham named president

The Celtics today promoted Rich Gotham to the role of team president, according to a statement released by the team. Gotham “will be responsible for all aspects of the Celtics business operations” and is the first to occupy the role since the passing of Arnold “Red” Auerbach last October.

“This promotion recognizes Rich’s leadership in organizing and driving our business efforts and his commitment to excellence in all of the Celtics’ off-court charitable and community activities,” Wyc Grousbeck, the team’s CEO and managing partner, said in the press release.

Gotham is a Providence alumnus and was previously the team’s chief operating officer.

“I’m excited about the team’s future and look forward to the responsibilities that come with being team president,” said Gotham.
