Wade works out

Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (23-51) will take on the Miami Heat (41-34) at 7:30 p.m.

Dwyane Wade ran sprints along the sideline with two of his teammates moments ago. He is recovering from a left shoulder injury that has kept him out since Feb. 21. Wade is wearing a protective sleeve on that shoulder. He looked strong and seemed to be running at full speed.

Wade then did a dribbling drill, taking the ball at halfcourt and splitting two defenders on his way to the basket before pulling up for a jumper. He didn’t hesitate to pull out a few tricky dribbling moves on his way to the hoop. He spent the final 30 minutes of his two-hour workout taking defenders off the dribble and coming off of screens for jump shots.

Celtics fans should not expect to see Wade in tonight’s game, but the swingman could return to action next week in a sixth man role, according to the Miami Herald.

  • As Chris Gasper reported in this space earlier today, Delonte West, Paul Pierce, and Al Jefferson are all out tonight for the Celtics. Doc Rivers now has eight healthy players at his disposal for tonight’s game.
  • The Eaglebrook School Ad Libs, on hand to sing tonight’s national anthem, were more than a little in awe as they made their way to the court to warm up before the game. With Wade warming up on one side and the Celtics dancers going through a routine on the other, there were more than a few smirks on the kids’ faces.

We’ll be back in a bit with reaction from the locker rooms.
