Avery likes Jefferson, Green
Mavericks coach Avery Johnson, last year’s NBA coach of the year and the current coach of the team with the league’s best record, sat in a separate locker room looking over film from last week’s Celtics-Dallas game on his laptop. The coach was asked if he likes the direction the Celtics were heading in.
“I like what I see with Gerald Green and Al Jefferson,” said Johnson. “You can start right there with those two. I think those two, barring any unforeseen thing, they have bright futures. It’s hard to get a guy that’s 6’8’’ (Green), athletic like that, can shoot it a little bit, an improved ball handler, still trying to get a feel for the NBA game. And Jefferson’s had a few 20-10 games. It’s hard to find good young players like that. If you just start right there with those two, I think they’re doing a good job developing those guys.”
