The Bruins continue to make their push for the playoffs when they host the Dallas Stars Thursday night. With six games remaining, the Bruins have 86 points, good for a 3-point lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning and a 4-point advantage on the New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes for the final wild-card spot. They also trail the Toronto Maple Leafs for third place in Atlantic Division by 1 point. All four of those teams have a game in hand on the Bruins.

Last Thursday, with nine games remaining and the Bruins having lost three in a row, the Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont wrote that they would likely need to collect 12 points to reach the playoffs. The outlook was even bleaker after a 6-3 loss to the Lightning that night. Having lost four games in a row, the Bruins were on the outside looking in at the playoff picture.
